Pondering

Why can't she keep her feet clean?

She showers regularly. She wears shoes/slippers most of the time. My floors are NOT that filthy.

Yet, the bottoms of her feet are always charcoal.

How does that happen? I have to wipe her feet down with baby wipes ALL the time.

I'm starting to call myself "Foot Patrol".

And why do I care?

***

How did I become the chauffeur?

I went from dropping her off at school to taking her to swimming, gymnastics, dance...and having to WAIT for her. I should charge her for "wait time".

This happened way to fast. I don't even get to have fun with her anymore at these classes...

***

Why do I have to repeat myself 3-4 times with every request/demand/reprimand?

I know she hears me. I know she knows what I'm saying. But I find myself saying the same crap over until she actually does what I've asked.

"Put your clothes in the hamper."
"Put your clothes in the hamper."
"Put your clothes in the hamper."
"Put your clothes in the hamper."

"Pick up your shoes."
"Pick up your shoes."
"Pick up your shoes."

"Brush your teeth."
"Brush your teeth."
"Brush your teeth."
"Brush your teeth."

I'm amazed by how many times I can say the same thing over and over again.

***

Yet, when she wants something...If I don't move fast enough...I get yelled at.

I'm huuuungryyyyyy, why aren't you making my sandwich yeeeeeeeeeettt?

I'm waiiiit-tiiinnng!!!

Holy hell.

  1. Times that by four in my house! I'm a step away from the looney bin. No wonder I'm so tired all the time. I'm also having the feet thing with my youngest. I wiped her feet with wet wipes right before I dropped her off at the sitter's house so she wouldn't think I don't bathe her. I think it's the sandals and flip flops. There's not enough covering their feet. Or it could just be that my floor is dirty.

Thanks for hanging out at my place while I was gone. Great post!

  9. Heh, ain't it grand? Seriously...I agree, this stuff happens way too fast. And I still have to repeat things to mine from time to time.

  10. I give my kids foot baths in the sink every night during the summer because their feet are always really dirty.

  11. Ha!!!!!!

I'm guessing that she's going barefoot during the day - when you don't know it.

  12. I gave up on the feet ages ago.
As to the repeating thing, yep, right there with you. I have to actually physically move them (yes, they're both like this) into place in order to do what they've been asked. It's because they're perceptive (read: easily distracted). Get "Raising Your Spirited Child" by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka. I would send you my copy but I'm still using it.

  13. That whole repeat, repeat, repeat thing? Doesn't that just drive you crazy?!? GAH!

After awhile, I start singing the same phrases in the melody of various songs. Example? "Put your shoes on, put your shoes on, put your shooeeessss on bunny-bun." (Sang to "Ole my Darling, Celmentine.") He HATES it but he does the job so I'll quit singing.

  16. If you repeat yourself, of course they won't listen. Of course, it took me way too many years to learn that!! Good luck with the foot thing. I wish I knew the solution for you!
