I can't even TRY to change the subject.
She won't let me get away with this much longer.
Avoidance and plain talk doesn't fly with this kid.
She wants answers. Answers to questions that her little mind can't possiby compute.
Answers that will for sure cause a raucus in her innocent little mind and not translate very well to her preschool friends.
How do I explain how she was made?
How does "We wanted a baby and mommy and daddy made you" become not good enough for an almost 5 year old?
How do I explain that she's not adopted (where the hell does she learn this?) and that she is ours, made from us?
How do I explain why she was in my belly and how she got there and how she got out?
'Cause lemme tell ya, she ain't havin' the short version for much longer people.
It is way too soon for this, dear me.
Bless your heart.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain.
Once when our oldest son was about 8 or 9 years old, he asked us if we were going to have any more babies. And I (without thinking clearly) answered,"We can't, because your daddy has been fixed."
He looked at both of us very quizzically and asked,"How does daddy getting fixed keep you from having another baby?"
Sigh.
To which we quickly responded, "Go play in your room!";)
Pitiful!
I don't think there is ever a "good" time; I'm 39, and I still prefer the whole "stork" delivered me to my parents, as opposed to the reality.
Shiver.
God Bless,
Amy:)
Ooohhh that is not fun. My mother told me she bought me at the grocery store with Green stamps you could give that a try
ReplyDeleteHmm I dont know what happened by I tried to comment it was a great one too but it disspapeared. SOrry
ReplyDeleteuh-oh.....
ReplyDeletehere, here with the stork! Me and my 2 brothers were delivered that way! Although my family was very open about all sex talk I'm still a little yucked out around them. On the flip side my brothers have no problem.
ReplyDeleteI want my children to be more than happy to give up some (I said some) info but still not totally sure what to do when the subject comes up!
When you find out...give me a call! Meanwhile...good luck! ;)
so waht are you saying??? I'm not just getting fat???
ReplyDeleteCrap....maybe we need to talk too.... sigh....
Wow ... this is what you get for raising such a smart, sweet kid!!! Wow I am so not ready for that talk!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had some answers for you, but I don't. My sons were satisfied with my explanations until they got old enough to understand.
ReplyDeleteOh my. I bet she's hearing stuff at school. Some of her friends are probably allowed to watch all kinds of adult fare. Maybe you could start by finding out what she IS hearing. Beyong that, I don't know. The Queen is making noises about us having a new live baby in our house. I'm considering borrowing one for a weekend to show her how awful she would find it. But that could also backfire.
ReplyDeleteI guess I tried to be factual, but not graphic - as little detail as possible while still answering the question. The response I got was wide eyes and no more questions, or "yeuch!"
ReplyDeleteI'd no problem showing my kids books designed for explaining these kinds of things at their level. I'd be happy to recommend something if the question is "still hanging".
